A good piece of news in Islander country for a change…

Sean Bergenheim, fresh off the removal of his old agents, got a 2 year deal, for just under 2 million. Here is the quote from Newsday.com.

Forward Sean Bergenheim, who was the only Islander to file for arbitration, avoided a hearing when he reached agreement today on a two-year deal worth $1.725 million. It appears Bergenheim’s recent decision to change agents facilitated the process.

Current Events

So you thought it was going to be just another boring summer? As Isles fans well know, boring it never seems to be. Many Isles fan harp on that the coaching change is just another dreaded blemish to the cavalcade that have traipsed past us over the long and arduous years as Isles fans. Those dubious bruises to our fan egos that have hit us over and over again years after a dynas

Baseball's All-Star Game - all nighter

Baseball....Better than a tranquilizer.

I will say, I really enjoyed the whole night of coverage for Baseball's big event honoring Yankee Stadium and the greats of the game. It was far better than I would have expected. But this is NY, and NY does everything better than everyone else.

The End of Ted’s ‘Un-Bogus’ Journey

TheDriveForFive's picture

Over the past two years, the Islanders have been an extremely interesting team to watch, changing team motif’s and ideas faster than an OCD patient at IHOP.

However, during that time, Ted Nolan’s hard-working attitude and approach was always prevalent. Regardless of who was on the team, Alexei Yashin, Ryan Smyth,Mike Comrie, he made sure his players worked for their minutes. When they didn’t, they were benched. That included players like Miroslav Satan and Rick DiPietro. For being that dedicated to the success of his team and not caring about the consequences, I applaud him.

But in the end, that’s why he lost his job.

Nolan Fallout: Overreaction?

Islesblogger's picture

Ted NolanThese days, it seems no matter what the Islanders do there is a bit of overreaction involved. Be it the media, analysts, fans, or bloggers; the reactions are similar.

Nolan-Snow fallout continues

I've said before that it boggles my mind that there are Islanders fans old enough to have their own children who cannot remember when the Isles last won a Stanley Cup. Some of that is just the cyclical nature of sports -- even the Yankees have had their down years. Much of that has to do with the ownership struggles the team had to endure prior to Charles Wang purchasing the club, trying times that set the organization back at least a decade.

CAN I GET AN AMEN!!!

IT FINALLY HAPPENED! Why it had to happen on July 15th and not October 5th of 2007, I don't know, But XM 204 can now be streamed from the web.

THANK YOU NHL and everyone who was involved in getting this done! It was said they were getting about 50 emails a day about it. Finally, we have Home Ice on Line!

Now I don't have to listen to Canadian sports radio all summer just looking for hockey info.

NOICE!!!

Snow job: Nolan is fired

There were signs and whispers throughout last season, and into the draft, and today the Islanders made it official when it was announced that Ted Nolan will no longer coach the team.

Ted Nolan Not Returning

Ted NolanOver the past several months, there have been rumblings that Garth Snow and Ted Nolan were not seeing eye to eye on several things regarding the team. Greg Logan has posted numerous articles and his most recent spoke of Nolan having no input during the draft.

Ted Nolan fired/walks away as head coach from the Islanders!

Dragoneye's picture

Wow, things are really changing with the New York Islanders. I just received news of Ted Nolan's departure (NEWSDAY) and am still in a state of shock. Sure, if you follow the team, you know the seeds of dissent were planted within the last several days, undoubtedly in a PR move to attempt to save face for the organization.

It is still unclear, and may never be clear if he indeed had philosophical differences with Garth and they mutually decided it was time to go. Was he was fired, did he quit, or did they play paper scissors stone to decide if he was going to stick around for another year? It is fuel for the fire, and adds more drama to an already dramatic club.

So long Ted….

This is tough… The Coach and GM were not seeing eye-to-eye from March… One wanted one direction, the other man, another direction.

This is an ‘agree to disagree’ situation that would not have lasted long…

Thoughts on Weight….

Yes - he is 38 years old… Yes - he is coming off his worst season ever…

Why would Garth take him?

I think he is got a good nucleus of young talent here… I think a player of Weight’s experience in and out of the trenches, is a good thing for this predominately young team to have.

JoeyJoe - we hardly knew you…..

I have a friend in the Raleigh area, who does not only just love #63, but she knows the game as well, and understands what is good and bad about his play.

She was very happy for us Islander fans, when Jo signed on the dotted line for a one-year deal. And quickly, he showed ability and movement around the slot area that fans of the Blue and Orange have not seen in a regularity in quite a long time.
