In the wake of fans hearing the news that forward Kyle Okposo will miss six to eight weeks, many fans are calling for the team to make a trade. This comment might have been understandable if this was the same Islanders’ team from five years ago. However, this summer Garth Snow improved the Islanders […]

Rejoice, Islanders fans, hockey returns tomorrow midst a blizzard that will most likely be of epic proportion. As epic as a third period in October against the Rangers? Probably not.

It took 16 consecutive playoff series to produce four straight Stanley Cups.

Amazingly, only one of those 16 series went the maximum number of games and the Isles only faced elimination once. The game five elimination game was at the Nassau Coliseum against the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 13th, 1982. The Islanders took a two games to none lead in the series with two quick victories over the Penguins in games 1 and 2 at the Coliseum. They defeated the Penguins by a combined score of 15-3 in the two victories.

BREAKING NEWS: Kyle Okposo to Miss 6-8 Weeks

Islanders Insight's picture

The Islanders returned from the All Star break today and let’s just say the second half of the season isn’t going quite as well as the first. Jack Capuano announced today that first line winger Kyle Okposo will miss six-eight weeks with an upper body injury. Okposo currently sits at 13th in the league with […]

Islanders defenseman Matt Donovan doesn’t get to play all that much this season, serving as the team’s sixth (and sometimes seventh) man in a rotation that only gets listed on head coach Jack Capuano’s official lineup sheet in case of injury or illness.

Sing A Ho-Sang Song: Joshua Dominates

Islanders Insight's picture

Josh Ho-Sang (St. Catherines Standard)

With just two New York Islander prospects in action on Sunday, it was Josh Ho-Sang (2014 first rd.) who put on a five point effort of a show to help lead his Niagara IceDogs to a 7-4 win over the Barrie Colts. Ho-Sang was dominant with his second OHL career hat trick and the most points he has scored in a game since he went 2-4-6 last February against the North Bay Battalion.

The Ho-Sang show started with his IceDogs down 1-0 as he earns a secondary assist on a power play goal scored at 2:23 of the first period. Point number two came exactly 1:07 later when with the teams at even strength as Ho-Sang sets up Billy Jenkins for a goal that puts the IceDogs ahead for good at 2-1.

NHL All-Star Game Gives Fans a Glimpse of League-Wide Camaraderie

during the Discover NHL Shootout event of the 2015 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition at Nationwide Arena on January 24, 2015 in Columbus, Ohio.

Many of the NHL’s players were teammates at one point or another, be it on Junior, World Junior, Olympic, European professional, or even AHL and NHL squads. Some even grew up in the same town or city. This certainly doesn’t mean everyone is best buds, what happens on the ice often doesn’t stay there, but for one weekend during the All-Star break, the league’s best players get together and seem to genuinely enjoy the company of one another in a very low pressure, fun environment.

After watching last night’s skill competition, it seems that, if given the proper amount of time, Jaroslav Halak can indeed handle the puck. Or at least shoot it.

Then again, maybe he tampered with the pucks. Hey, can I get a PSI reading on the pucks Halak used?

National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman yesterday delivered his annual state of the game address to the media in Columbus, Ohio as part of the league’s all-star weekend.

Below are the key points he focused on, including what a potential salary cap could be for 2015-16, which will affect the way the Islanders do business this summer.

Islanders Prospects Find No Success This Saturday

Islanders Insight's picture

Mar. 1, 2013; Hockey vs. Bowling Green, Robbie Russo (5).

It had to happen sooner or later because given the number of New York Islanders prospects and the many games that make up a season that a night would come along that would make one go “ewwww”. There is, however a silver lining in all of this and that is that it took more than half a season for the Islander prospects to have one of these bad nights.
