Another game, another injury.

All went well as far as the score went in last night’s game for the Islanders, a 2-0 win against the Montreal Canadiens, but the team suffered yet another injury. Johan Sundstrom suffered an injury after taking a vicious hit in the 2nd period of last night’s contest. Sundstrom would leave the game, and his status is currently unknown.

I should stop writing these Top Shelf posts because every time I’m on deck for one—and I actually get around to writing it—another New York Islanders player goes down with an injury. This time, it was Cal Clutterbuck who left a game and did not return.

I blame myself.

Islanders Get Clutterbucked In Loss To Sens

For the 4th straight year, the New York Islanders will finish the season with a below .500 home record. For all the undoing the latest November and December swoon did in making the team miss the post-season dance once again, that might be the most damaging.

After last night’s 4-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators in the home finale of the 2013-14 season, players seemed to be at a loss to explain why.

Same Old Story or Brand New Chapter?

Islanders Insight's picture

We’ve all seen this story before from the New York Islanders. The team struggles mightily in the first half of the season, strings together wins in the second half, but still fails to reach the playoffs. Last year was an exception as the Islanders reached the playoffs after going 16-6-5 in the last two months […]

The streak is over.

On the same night that Brock Lesnar defeated The Undertaker at Wrestlemania XXX – the first time Taker ever lost at WWE’s grandest event in 22 matches – the Columbus Blue Jackets ended the New York Islanders’ longest point streak of the season.

5-0-2 isn’t nearly as impressive as 21-0, but the Islanders, minus several key players, found a way to string together 12 of 14 points. Of course, the accomplishment would have looked much better if the Islanders hadn’t fallen out of the playoff race back in December, but the streak was still something the Islanders should be proud of. For the most part, the Islanders did it with ten rookies in the lineup – all whom should benefit from the team’s winning ways.

Islanders : Mayfield Gets The Call

In the wake of the Islanders 4-3 shootout loss today to the Washington Capitals, the injury bug bit hard yet again, as it seems like the bad karma of the 2013-14 season will last right to the end.

There have been lots of smiles going around the New York Islanders lately even though the team was eliminated from playoff contention much earlier in the 2013-14 National Hockey League season. Winning 6 of 8 games will do that for you.

NHL March Power Rankings

Islanders Insight's picture

Contributor Tom Ballantyne is back with his latest edition of the NHL monthly power rankings. Teams are still jockeying for playoff position as the season winds down to its final week while others look to play spoiler.

The top 2 division winners will draw the wild card participants and the 2/3 teams in each division will square off in the opening round of the playoffs, which is every hockey fans favorite time of the year.

It does not matter who you root for, there is nothing more exciting in sports I would argue than playoff hockey. The intensity, drive, skill and pure guts shown are something that cannot be replicated in any other sport.

Without further adieu, Tom presents his latest rankings below….
