It’s been another typical week here in Islanders Country. The only game played at this point in the week showed the Islanders play a strong two and a half periods, only to find themselves blowing a two goal lead in minutes and losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in a shootout. The Islanders have had […]

Sticking By The Islanders: How I View Being a Fan

On Tuesday I was sitting around my parent’s house thinking of something to do, because you can only sit on the couch in your pajamas for so many days in a row.

I was thinking a while when I remembered, “Oh yeah. There’s an Islander game tonight.” So I called my buddy and said I found tickets in the 200s (normally $65) for $15 a piece on Stub Hub and he says, “Perfect.”

I pick him up later in the day and off we go on our icy journey to the magical old barn.

John Spano Is Still Not The Answer For The Islanders

In October, ESPN’s 30 for 30 series introduced Big Shot to sports fans. A 77-minute film highlighting a dark period of time during the New York Islanders franchise. The Islanders were playing some of their worst hockey in franchise history and John Spano’s desire to not only buy the team, but come in as the knight in shining armor the Islanders fanbase had been clamoring for.

The Islanders Need Help, But Hindsight is 20/20 on Long Island

Islanders Insight's picture

captain hindsightThe New York Islanders season continues to unravel. With only five regulation wins in the latter half of December, Long Island’s hockey team has failed to take advantage the momentum that had them push the first-place Pittsburgh Penguins to a hard-fought six games in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, which has caused the team’s fan-base to figuratively commit arson on the organization’s front office.

With the holiday season in full swing–undoubtedly bringing with it time spent with family and friends–the New York Islanders recently took a step back from hockey to appreciate what’s really important in life. Because at the end of the day, hockey is just a game, whether the fans understand that or not.

Who are the New York Islanders?

In the spirit of sobriety and even-handedness, let me summarize last season in as succinct a style and form as possible:

New York Islanders Tweets Of The Week

Another tough week in Islanders country as New York continues their slide to the bottom of the Eastern conference standings.

A 6-3 loss in Phoenix to close out a 2 point out of 10 road trip was followed by a lifeless overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens and a disastrous 3-2 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It’s just the same old song and dance, right?

The Islanders have done it again, folks. They go out on the ice, play a strong two periods, dictate play for a portion of the third period only to find themselves blow their lead late in the game and lose in a shootout.

It’s games like these that are most frustrating. These are the games that you just try to move over, but certainly remember what happened to ensure history doesn’t repeat itself (but that’s far too late).

My Islanders Christmas Wish List : Part I

The Islanders continue to struggle in the early part of the 2013-14 season, last in the Metropolitan division and having a better record than only the Buffalo Sabres in the entire National Hockey League.

But let’s not rehash what we already know. It gets redundant and does nobody any good. It is the Christmas season after all.

And that means the season of giving. Spending time with those most important to us and spreading cheer and good wishes to everyone. Putting selfishness and stubbornness aside and thinking of others.

NHL TV Schedule : Week Of December 16

The NHL TV schedule for the week of December 16 is right here and Eyes On Isles has you covered for your viewing pleasure.

Things are not getting much better on Long Island as the Islanders continue to struggle, now having won just 3 of their previous 20 games. The only thing still keeping a faint hope of the playoffs alive is the equally mediocre play of the entire Metropolitan division.

Yesterday afternoon, I arrived on Long Island for the first time in 6 months to visit family for the holidays. I was excited to eat a meal cooked by my mother and watch the Islanders play on MSG+2- the other other MSG. Anyway, Islander country’s hopes were unusually high coming in to this season, making this current skid even harder to swallow.
