My Islanders Christmas Wish List : Part I

The Islanders continue to struggle in the early part of the 2013-14 season, last in the Metropolitan division and having a better record than only the Buffalo Sabres in the entire National Hockey League.

But let’s not rehash what we already know. It gets redundant and does nobody any good. It is the Christmas season after all.

And that means the season of giving. Spending time with those most important to us and spreading cheer and good wishes to everyone. Putting selfishness and stubbornness aside and thinking of others.

The NHL TV schedule for the week of December 16 is right here and Eyes On Isles has you covered for your viewing pleasure.

Things are not getting much better on Long Island as the Islanders continue to struggle, now having won just 3 of their previous 20 games. The only thing still keeping a faint hope of the playoffs alive is the equally mediocre play of the entire Metropolitan division.

Yesterday afternoon, I arrived on Long Island for the first time in 6 months to visit family for the holidays. I was excited to eat a meal cooked by my mother and watch the Islanders play on MSG+2- the other other MSG. Anyway, Islander country’s hopes were unusually high coming in to this season, making this current skid even harder to swallow.

Rookie Defenseman Calvin de Haan has followed a rough path to the NHL over the past couple of seasons but is showing promise during his current stint on the Islander blueline. Injuries have slowed his development and hampered his progress, but it appears he might be finally ready to stick with the big club.

Starting goaltender Evgeni Nabokov made his return to the Islanders lineup on Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens following a three-week absence. Despite Nabokov’s brilliant play and a strong overall performance the Isles dropped the decision 1-0 in overtime.

The New York Islanders just could not generate anything last night. For whatever reason, and a lot of us are done speculating at this point, there was just no jam…..no sauce….no filling…..no whipped topping.

The results have been tabulated in our first ever National Hockey League Survivor home edition featuring the New York Islanders.

Some were surprising but most were not. The general consensus was along the lines of what we have been seeing from the fanbase on social media networks and for some players, their time on Montauk enjoying the beautiful summers by the water has come to an end.

Ryan Strome Can be a Difference Maker- And Not in the Way You’d Think

Islanders Insight's picture

Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

In all likelihood, Ryan Strome will be making his NHL debut tonight against the Montreal Canadiens at Nassau Coliseum. Strome has been on a hot streak as of late, as he lead the AHL in scoring before the Islanders decided to recall him from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL.

There’s obviously no two ways about it, Ryan Strome’s biggest contribution will always be a offense, whether it’d be goal scoring or playmaking. He was arguably the most dynamic skater in the AHL just a week ago, which adds to his scoring threat.

The New York Islanders have returned home from a grueling and non-productive Western coast road trip where they claimed 2 out of a possible 10 points. They will take on the Montreal Canadiens tonight at the Nassau Coliseum beginning at 7pm. With the expected weather conditions, if you are heading out, please take care and be safe traveling.

The Islanders ended their five game road trip on a sour note, as they lost by a score of 6-3 in Phoenix against the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Islanders played a decent first period, as the offensive made contributions and Kevin Poulin made a few terrific saves in front of a struggling defense, keeping the Coyotes t just one goal during the second period.
