I never said this team was going to make the playoffs this year, but being somewhat competitive and avoiding long losing streaks like the current one, is a little surprising (or is it?). Especially given the teams nice start.
The power play looked fantastic. I think they converted on 4 of 5 opportunities. 5 on 5 play? That is another topic all together. It’s terrible, absolutely putrid. The worst I’ve seen from this team in the past few seasons.
Successful teams, and rebuilds, are built from the back to front, goal and defense being the focus, and up the middle. See: Kings, Blackhawks, Bruins. I’m not going to bother getting into a game recap here, because it would sound similar to so many in the past. I will say this: this team needs a lot of help. The culture of this team is at stake and the livelihood of a couple of exceptionally talented players are on the line. Not to mention an already depleted fanbase that is barely hanging on save for a few thousand diehards.
