Counting down in our Isles Talk draft preview at number 7 is Curtis Lazar. A month ago, he wasn’t even on the radar, but due to his improved play in the second half and his playoff run with the Edmonton Oil Kings, Lazar has moved his rankings upward in every draft and rankings. Again with the amount of talent in this years draft, it will not surprise me one bit if he’s still around, but he is being sought out by a few teams.Name: Curtis Lazr

Height: 6′ 0″

Weight: 198lbs

Position: C/RW

League: WHL

Age: 18 (Born in Feb)

ISS rank: 12   CS:20

Comparison: Mike Fisher, Ryan Kesler, Milan Lucic

Total games played: 77  Goals: 41   Assists: 24   Points: 65

Pure goal scorer, that’s the best description I was given by a few season ticket holders in Edmonton. Soft hands, great slap shot & pounces on rebounds when he’s driving to the net. He has the best acceleration and can fly by defenders when he’s stuck. Good fore checker, arguably one of the best in this draft and is very good in the faceoff department. He’s a gold medal winner in the Ivan Hlinka Tournament and played in the 2012 U-18 World Junior Tournament.  The Islanders have seen plenty of him because as I have stated before, he’s on the Edmonton Oil Kings and is a teammate of the Islanders 2012 first round pick, Griffin Reinhart.

UPDATE: As I’m going through the research on some prospects, it’s been very clear that this is such a deep draft that I will not be surprised if the Islanders were to draft down and pick up an extra pick or two. Having said that, I’m expanding my list of prospects to 15, and ranking/updating them with every new preview I do. Only because if the Islanders trade down, the player I think will be at 15, may not be there later on if/when the Islanders do pick. So here is the latest ranking:
