Islanders Bits: Everybody growing here

The Islanders official site focuses on the playoff appearance to say the future is bright, while at the end of last week they were highlighting waiver-infused competition for roster spots during the season.

That competition only gets stiffer next fall, and one competitor is coming off a good season and a good World Championship for a surprising medal winner in Switzerland. The great Swiss run ended with a loss but a silver medal on Sunday, as host Sweden took the gold. Nino Niederreiter had a good tournament.

The U.S. team, knocked out by the Swiss in the semifinal, beat Finland in a shootout for bronze.

Meanwhile, back home in the melodrama, you'll be surprised to learn that Larry Brooks thinks the whole Brooklyn Islanders-to-Nassau-sometimes thing is silly (bold emphasis mine):

The Rangers/MSG already have approved the Islanders’ move to Brooklyn, as was required under the NHL constitution. There is no reason at all to believe they would green-light this hopscotch back to the Island

Hmm, is that because they care about the Islanders not invading full time, or because they're also involved in a bid to repurpose the Coliseum property?
