We. Made. It. Rejoice!

This is the night we’ve been waiting for, Isles fans! In just a few short hours, the New York Islanders’ 2014-15 season begins. And oh, how nice it is to say that!

The Isles are in Raleigh, NC, preparing for a 7 p.m. puck drop against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Isles will then travel back to good ol’ Long Island where they’ll take on the Hurricanes again tomorrow night on Coliseum ice. So now, and we really mean it this time: Islanders hockey has arrived, and it’s not leaving any time soon.

However, it’s not all fun and games as we head into the middle of October. Yesterday, Newsday’s Arthur Staple confirmed reports that Michael Grabner will need sports hernia surgery, and that the speedy forward is “out indefinitely.”

That’s definitely not good news, but with all the forward depth the Islanders have accumulated, the loss of Grabner shouldn’t seriously hurt the team. While it obviously would be better to have him in the lineup tonight, they can manage without the NHL’s fastest winger for a little while. After all, they’ve survived without better players before.

So don’t let that injury (or anything on this day!) bring you down. The Islanders will be okay, and we’ll be able to see that tonight for the first time since April. They’re back, they’re strong, and they are ready to fill this season with memories. Let’s go Islanders!
