Road Warriors

Maybe the Isles should adopt this logo?

For those of you that follow baseball, especially in the Tri-State Area, there has been a team in the Atlantic League called the Road Warriors.  Very simply, every game they play, is a road game.  They have no home, spend their entire summer in hotels, and play the game they love.

Anyone considering putting Road Warrior uniforms on our hockey club?

Tavares leads Islanders past Capitals, 3-2

JT with number 20

Despite a lousy two periods, John Tavares (20) got a feed from Matt “The Assist Machine” Moulson, and put it by Braden Holtby, to make the difference in the contest.  Cappy had thought about splitting up the line, but chose not to.  Good choice.  Good players always find a way to get it done.  JT was at the right place at the right time.

The Isles are getting secondary scoring.  Michael Grabner (11) and Josh Bailey (5), got the other two goals.  The second line of Bailey, Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen have nothing short of brilliant lately.  Okie has new magic legs out there, and is making things happen every shift on the ice.  Bailey has found a fountain of youth (at 23), and is playing his best hockey of his career right now.

Colin McDonald was a hitting machine, with six in the first period alone, and a total of eight in the game.

The Islanders play a fantastic road game, keeping the play simple, expose a weakness that the home team leaves out there, and take advantage of it.  That is exactly what the top line did to Mike Green of the Caps.

Evgeni Nabokov was outstanding in the latter stages of the game, making some unbelievable saves, keeping his team in the game.

Unfortunately for me, I was doing my taxes last night, and was basically listening to the game, as opposed to watching.  Howie and Butch seemed quite excited with these guys, and for good reason.

The Isles went from 12th to 9th in the last 48 hours, and are sitting two points behind the so called Mighty Rangers.  With 15 games to go, it is anyones playoffs to take.  In the East, it is everyone, except Florida in the running.  Anyone can be in, and anyone can be out in a matter of days.  With the Isles now at 9-4-1 on the road, and with 10 more of these contests left, it will take a simple road game mentalty for these boys to see playoff action.

And we remember what happened to the team that just made the playoffs in the Western Conference on the last day of the season, don’t we???
