As you all know, my goal for this blog is to provide as much information to all hockey fans and especially Islanders fans on the New York Islanders prospects coming through their system. Because of this, I have decided to start a weekly prospect update beginning this weekend. In addition, in the gray bar under the title, there will be a new page listing the cumulative stats for all prospects being covered in the weekly updates. The updates will be posted on Sundays.

For the purpose of these updates, a prospect will be any player in the Islanders system not playing in a pro league. That means any player in the AHL, ECHL or CHL (Islanders have a new affiliate there in Odessa) will not be covered in these weekly updates.

Bottom Line: New York still stuck in 07-08

Simply put the early schedule last season that had this club play three games in twenty days did not give them a three day break after Dec 26, 2007 the rest of the season aside from the all-star break.

A lot of players with a history of getting hurt could not hold up under that schedule and to this day the remaining roster is paying for it along with a combination of some new injuries combined with Scott Gordon's overspeed practices that is an adjustment.

Newsday: Greg Logan has Josh Bailey's comments on signing with New York and elaborates a bit on when he got hurt in camp and what's ahead while general manager Garth Snow is asked about developing Bailey because several veterans are in the final year of their contract.

Josh Bailey Signed

Josh Bailey, the Islanders 1st rd draft pick, just got the birthday present every hockey player dreams of, he signed his NHL contract today. As per the New York Islanders website, it is the standard three-year entry level deal almost all prospects sign.

The question now becomes where will he start the season. The Islanders can keep him on Long Island for the first nine games of the season without the first year of his contract taking effect. Based on my observations from the ITV broadcast of his first exhibition game,Bailey will have to show he can handle the rough and tumble world of the NHL better than he did in that game to stay the whole season.

Isles/NHL/Bridgeport Notables & Injury Policy

Sportsnet.ca: Reports former Islander Brad Isbister despite being signed by Ottawa will not report to it's AHL affiliate in Binghampton as something is worked out where he can play in Europe or hook on with another club.

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio reports in his blog some number changes and a few injury updates with when some cuts will be coming from Bridgeport.

A few words on the club's injury policy:

Quick Hits: Shutdown by Brodeur

I started this post yesterday, never had the chance to get it posted. I know it’s almost irrelevant now that it’s two days old! Here it is anyway.

Hockey was definately back last night, but the Devils were certainly the better team - shutting out the Isles in typical NJ fashion.

Bailey’s Birthday Contract!

News is filtering in from all over now that the announcement was made at the press conference. The Islanders have signed 2008 first round draft pick Josh Bailey to a three year entry level deal - on his 19th birthday.

Congratulations to Josh and happy birthday!

Poll Update: Who should Snow/Gordon cut

NYI Fan Central's picture

The official return of our polls at NYIFC is off to a good start.

This weeks poll put you in the place of general manager Garth Snow and head coach Scott Gordon where you decide who you would cut if it were up to you.

The poll winds down around the time the club finishes up the preseason but already we have had one waiver pickup and the injuries adding up fast and furiously with some Bridgeport players recalled.

Joey MacDonald 13 (25%)
Yann Danis 19 (36%)

Hockey returns to the Coliseum!

growingupwiththeisles's picture

But I never said it would be good hockey.

The first game since April at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum was today at 7 P.M. It was a pre-season game vs the New Jersey Devils. The Islanders got shut out, 3-0. I'm not going to try and defend our play, but the Devils did have their NHL lineup out, including Brodeur, while the Islanders, well... didn't.

"Healthy Scratches," as announced at the game, were Hilbert, Park, Bergenheim, Guerin and Weight. Sutton, Sillinger, Campoli, Gervais, and DiPietro did not play either.

I'm going to give you a breakdown of each offensive line, from my view.
