Halak in Edmonton

The New York Islanders continued their point streak last night with a shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs to stay nine points ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers. Both the Islanders and Flyers have played 65 games and play each other twice more in the remaining 17 games of the regular season.

Jaroslav Halak will miss the next six to eight weeks with a groin injury, meaning Thomas Greiss and J-F Berube, the 23-year-old AHL phenom who has two NHL starts to his name, will take on the rest of the Islanders’ schedule. Luckily, the Islanders appear to be in pretty good shape and, barring a huge breakdown from Greiss, are poised to make the playoffs for a second straight year and the third time in four seasons.

The Islanders will regroup after a tough shootout loss last night and get ready to play Johnny Boychuk’s former team, the Boston Bruins, at TD Garden on Saturday.
