The Islanders return to action tonight, taking on the now-familiar foe in the Tampa Bay Lightning in a crucial Game 4. With the Isles down in the series 2-1, this game is critical. A win evens things at two and makes this series much more winnable, while a loss would leave the team with little room for error if they want to avoid elimination.

Game 3 was not easy to watch by its conclusion, as the Islanders coughed up a lead with less than a minute remaining in the third period, only to lose the game in overtime on a questionable non-call by the referees. However, the team did play very well in that game, and after a loss, they are expected to come out looking very strong. The offense last game came so close to overwhelming Tampa Bay G Ben Bishop early, and if they manage to put that kind of pressure on again tonight, there is a good chance this series is tied by the end of the day.

The series has been competitive thus far, and the Islanders are certainly capable of taking this game at home for their first second round victory in 23 years. As badly as the fans want a win, the players might want it even more; it is evident. That kind of hunger needs to be present in tonight’s effort, and if it is, there is reason to say the Isles could find themselves in a position to take this all important contest as they head back to Tampa.
