Washington Capitals v New York Islanders - Game Four

New York Islanders’ goaltender Jaroslav Halak will be sidelined a minimum of six weeks according to Jack Capuano.

The injury happened late in the third period in last night’s 2-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Thomas Greiss has been pushing Halak for the starting goaltender position all season long and will now get his chance at the most important time of the season. New York has been carrying three goaltenders for most of the season, so J.F. Berube will slide into the backup position.

The projected timetable will keep Halak out through the first round of the playoffs and potentially longer. If the Islanders hope to make a run in the playoffs, it will be Greiss leading the way between the pipes.
