Montreal Canadiens vs. New York Islanders Pregame Report When: October 26th, 2016 Where: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY Time: 7:00 PM EDT TV: MSG+ (Brendan Burke, Butch Goring) Radio: WFAN 101.9 FM, WRHU 88.7 FM, AM 570, WRCN 103.9 FM (Chris King, Greg Picker)
The Islanders look to have finally gotten things headed in the right direction. After a sluggish start, the Isles are back at .500. It’s way too early to talk standings, but we will anyway. The Isles are three points behind division leading Pittsburgh, whom the team will visit tomorrow night. But, first the Islanders most focus on the task at hand, beating the Canadiens who are undefeated in regulation (5-0-1). It’s possible that the lineup looks different tonight than it has in the previous three games. Nikolay Kulemin is dealing with the effects of an injury suffered on Sunday night. His status is a game-time decision. If he cannot go, Mathew Barzal will get another shot at impressing after an obvious nerve-wracked first game in which he took three minor penalties. The Isles cannot afford that against a Canadiens offense that has scored the second most goals in the NHL, and has the largest goal differential…by a large margin. You would think the Islanders would be a little more confident knowing they would not have to face Carey Price. But, backup goaltender, and former Islander, Al Montoya has been excellent so far this season for the Habs. He has gone 2-0-1 with a 1.30 goals-against average, a .962 save percentage, and one shutout. Speaking of backups, Thomas Greiss will get the start in net for the Islanders.
Islanders Player To Watch: Anthony BeauvillierThe Islanders’ 19-year-old rookie is tied for the Islanders’ team lead in points. He has brought youth and enthusiasm to the team. It will be fun to see if he can continue his hot streak. Canadiens Player To Watch: Shea WeberWhen P.K. Subban was dealt to Nashville, the Canadiens got Shea Weber in return. He is proving to be a great acquisition thus far. He has seven points (2 G, 5 A) in six games. He is on a three-game point scoring streak. The Islanders will need to watch him very carefully.
