What's the hang-up with Evgeni Nabokov?

The Isles still were trying Sunday to convince the former All-Star goaltender to report to New York after they claimed him off waivers following his free-agent signing with the Red Wings. General manager Garth Snow revealed that Nabokov, who began the season playing in the Russian KHL, initially hung up on him when first contacted Saturday. The veteran netminder also told ESPN Sunday that he has no plans to report to the Islanders.

"He had his heart set on going to Detroit, obviously. I told him I respect that, but he's a New York Islander now and we'd love to have him (be) part of our group," Snow told the New York Daily News. "He'll come here.

Evgeni Nabokov gave off a poor first impression to Islanders general manager Garth Snow, but not bad enough to make New York sour on the veteran goalie it wants to add to the roster. Snow reached out to the 35-year-old Nabokov on Saturday shortly after the Islanders claimed him from the Detroit Red Wings -- the team with which Nabokov signed a one-year contract on Thursday.
